Alan Hawkins is an improviser, actor, and educator with more than forty years of experience in the theatre. He began acting at fourteen and has worked in nearly every corner of the stage world, including performing, directing, and stage management. His work blends the instincts of an actor, the eye of a director, and the discipline of a stage manager, supported by an Adler and Meisner influenced belief in bold choices, honesty, and emotional truth.
Alan has trained at The Second City Conservatory and Musical Conservatory, iO West, the Chicago ComedySportz Training Center, and The Annoyance Theatre. He has performed at festivals across the United States and internationally, including guest work with Grand Theft Improv in London. As a teacher, Alan is known for his clarity, compassion, and relationship based improvisation, helping students build grounded, emotionally connected scenes. His book, You Can’t Learn Improv from a Book, is praised by educators and performers for its accessible, practical approach to teaching high school improvisers.
Alan is currently an ensemble member at Unexpected Productions in Seattle, where he continues to teach, perform, and share his passion for improvisation with students of all ages.
